Group of Robotics, Automation and Articular Biomechanics

The research group

Welcome to the GRAB website. GRAB is a section of DIN - Dept. of Industrial Engineering, at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Bologna.

Established in 1982 by Professor Parenti Castelli, the GRAB research team is now composed by a number of Ph.D. Students, four Contract Researchers, two Assistant Professors and two Associate Professors.

GRAB researches are mainly focused on robot kinematics and dynamics, as well as on the modelling of human articulations, two areas in which the group has gained international recognition. Such researches have led to numerous publications.

GRAB projects are sponsored by the the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), by the University of Bologna and by the Emilia-Romagna Region. Many activities have been developed in collaboration with the INAIL Prosthetic Centre, with the Istituo Ortpedico Rizzoli and with the National Research Center (CNR). GRAB has also collaborations with different international Institutes and Universities, such as the Oxford Orthopaedic Institute of the Oxford University and the Jozef Stefan Institute.

GRAB counts on a Computing Center and a Laboratory, equipped with standard tool machines and designed for prototype manufacturing and experimental tests.

Founded in the XI century, the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna is considered the oldest university in the western world. The Faculty of Engineering was founded in 1877, with the name of Royal School of Engineering.
The University of Bologna is located in the homonymous city in northern Italy. It counts about 100.000 students in 23 Faculties and it comprises campuses in Cesena, Forlì, Imola, Ravenna and Buenos Aires (Argentina). Courses are taught in Italian.
